The main entrance point to Honduras is San Pedro Sula’s International Airport SAP, receiving daily flights from several US gateways as well as from South America. The ride to Copan Ruinas takes about 3 hours, and you can book private transportation from local Tour Operators, take a bus or rent a car at the airport. Recently the Copan Airport located in Rio Amarillo, just 20 minutes from Copan has started to accommodate scheduled flights operated by CM Airlines from Roatan, San Pedro Sula, and Tegucigalpa. Soon there will be flights coming from Belize City and Guatemala City.
The town of Copan Ruinas, is nestled on a hillside in the western highlands of Honduras, 115 miles (185 km) West of San Pedro Sula. This quaint and picturesque small colonial town is located just 0.6 miles (1 km) from the UNESCO World Heritage Archaeological Maya Site of Copan, internationally renowned for its magnificent sculptures unique to the Maya World. Hotel Marina Copan is ideally set for people who wish to visit the main site and explore the warm cobblestoned town streets. Located in front of the Central Plaza, the hotel is within easy reach of the Museum of Archaeology and plenty of dining choices. It’s also at a walking distance from the town’s handicraft and artisan shops. As Copan Ruinas’s streets are cobble-stoned, we suggest guests to bring comfortable walking shoes.
